State Library Victoria

— Event Branding

The Keith Murdoch Oration is a biennial event for the State Library of Victoria featuring some of Australia’s finest thought leaders. Previous speakers have included Lachlan Murdoch, The Honourable Paul Keating, Hugh Evans and Lord Sebastian Coe.

In 2016 Noel Pearson took to the podium with the topic: ‘Still hunting the radical centre: revisiting Daniel Patrick Moynihan 50 years later’.

Brand By Name was appointed to create excitement and interest around the 2016 address with a striking invitation and supporting event collateral.

Complete creative concept

We started by researching Noel Pearson and were mightily impressed with what we found. This led to the list of nouns that formed the cover of the event invitation and program booklet.

It showcased the amazing diversity of the speaker’s skills and experience, creating intrigue about the possible identity of the speaker (which had not been disclosed at that point).

Simplicity and style

By using the acronym KMO we enabled the identity of the speaker to shine without losing the impact of the Keith Murdoch Oration brand.

The simple colour palette of teal, white and bronze created a modern look which reflected the importance and influence of the event, whilst the foil stamp on the bronze lettering added a sophisticated touch.
